There are 6 treasure maps you can collect and 9 pieces for each map.  Once you find all 9 treasure pieces for a map, you get special rewards!  To track your progress, you can go to the above link (note: your treasure map pieces hav to be in your inventory in order for you to have them show up on the Treasure Hunt site).
